Donaustauf – Walhalla
Donaustauf – Walhalla
Inaugurated in 1842, the temple-like Walhalla was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria in recognition of the most influential figures in the German-speaking world. This mighty structure in the Neoclassical style towers high above the Danube on Bräuberg Hill near the town of Donaustauf. Built by court architect Leo von Klenze and inspired by Greek architecture, this is one of the most significant Neoclassical buildings in Germany.
