Göttweig Abbey
Göttweig Abbey
Göttweig’s imperial staircase was originally only accessible ‘pro hospitibus primae notae’, that is, for guests of the first order. Today, the largest Baroque staircase in Austria stands at the entrance to the museum in the imperial wing: you, too, can ascend it – as Maria Theresa or Emperor Napoleon once did – under the vast ceiling fresco by Paul Troger and experience the abbey’s most beautiful rooms.
