Eckartsau Castle
Eckartsau Castle – following in the monarchy’s footsteps
Eckartsau, the former imperial hunting lodge, is the traditional setting for the Eckartsau Castle Concerts held in April and May each year. The magnificent ballroom and numerous hunting trophies of heir to the throne Franz Ferdinand recall the glamour and glory of the Hapsburg era. The Danube Monarchy also came to an end at the castle: the last Austrian imperial couple fled from here into exile. On tours of the castle, this thrilling story of Austria-Hungary’s final hours is told right where history took place.
