Vajdahunyad Castle in Budapest

Vajdahunyad Castle is located in one of Budapest's largest public parks, the City Park, and today houses the Hungarian Agricultural Museum. The castle was built on an island and can be reached via one of four bridges. The complex of buildings on the island in the City Grove Lake was completed in 1896 - a significant year for the Hungarian nation, as Hungary celebrated the 1000th anniversary of the land seizure that year. Together with many other landmarks in Budapest, Vajdahunyad Castle was built to celebrate the thousand-year anniversary of the Hungarian state.

The building complex is considered a particularly interesting attraction, as it combines elements from the Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles at the same time. The components of the monumental castle building were modeled after famous buildings erected in historical Hungary, which means that elements of Romanesque and Gothic churches, as well as Renaissance palaces and Baroque castles can be discovered in the castle.

One of the most characteristic details of Vajdahunyad Castle is the medieval tower, which stands at the entrance of the building complex. The building was originally called the "Historical Building Complex" and only later renamed Vajdahunyad Castle after Ignác Alpár modeled the dominant part, the main facade, on the medieval Vajdahunyad Castle of the Hunyadis in Transylvania.
