Červený Kameň Castle
Červený Kameň Castle
Červený Kameň, one of Slovakia’s best-preserved castles and the most beautiful in the Little Carpathian Mountains, is located just a few dozen kilometres from Bratislava. It was converted into a monumental fortress with a fortification system in the 16th century and was a prominent part of the military defence strategy at the time. Although a monumental fortress was built here by the Fugger dynasty in the first half of the 16th century on the site of the original royal castle from the 13th century, the castle’s history from 1583 to the Second World War is closely linked with the house of Pálfi. This important Hungarian dynasty gradually converted the castle into a stately residence with rich stucco ornaments and splendid fresco paintings in the interiors. The castle is currently home to a museum depicting the historic lifestyle of the aristocracy. You’ll also find a wine tavern, a restaurant and a café on the castle premises.
