Golden Tower
Golden Tower
The Golden Tower in Regensburg’s Old Town is a so-called Geschlechterturm, or ‘dynasty tower’ dating to the second half of the 13th century. These towers were built by rich patrician families as status symbols in the Middle Ages: the more important the family was, the higher its tower. This nine-storey residential tower extends high above the roofs of the UNSECO World Heritage city at a height of 50 metres. The impressive inner courtyard is open to the public; it can be visited at any time and is accessible from Wahlenstrasse as well as from Untere Bachgasse.
