Hof Castle
Hof Castle
Prince Eugene of Savoy acquired the castle in 1726 and had it converted into a splendid estate by renowned Baroque architect Lukas von Hildebrandt. After standing empty for many years, this jewel was once again opened to visitors in 2005 following extensive general renovations. Today, a uniquely aristocratic ensemble consisting of splendid architecture and masterfully designed green spaces extends across a space of more than 50 hectares. The magnificent imperial apartments are among the loveliest ballrooms of the early Classicist style in Austria and immerse visitors in the charm of the imperial era. The world’s finest landscape architects also restored the stunning Baroque gardens, which are planted on seven terraces, to their original splendour. Children will particularly enjoy the old domestic animal breeds and wild animals, which can be admired in the petting zoo and in the menagerie. An in-depth anniversary exhibition commemorating the life and work of one of the most important rulers in European history opened on 15 March 2017 to coincide with the 300th birthday of Maria Theresa.
