Roman City Carnuntum

Roman City Carnuntum

Carnuntum was an important Roman world city on the border of the Roman Empire from the 1st to the 4th century AD. Due to its militarily important location for border security and its proximity to major trade routes, Carnuntum developed into the capital of the province of Upper Pannonia with about 50,000 inhabitants. To bring history and basic scientific research to life is the aim of the Roman city of Carnuntum. The Roman quarter with reconstructed ancient houses, the amphitheatres and the Carnuntinum Museum as Carnuntum’s treasure house bring the ancient world back to life.
