Dürnstein
In 1192/93, King Richard I of England, known as Richard the Lionheart, was imprisoned at Kuenringer Castle at the order of Leopold V of the House of Babenberg. A portion of Richard’s ransom, which came into the hands of the Kuenring family, enabled the expansion and revival of the castle and town of Dürnstein.
